What is Equine Rider Insurance?

Have you ever considered what would happen if you had an accident whilst riding, or working around a horse? Equine ride insurance is a combination of insurance cover that will pay you a lump sum if you have an accident, or are disabled or die while working with or riding a horse, and replace a percentage of your income using Income Protection Insurance.

How does Equine Insurance work?

We know that working with horses can cause severe injury, and you probably take many steps to reduce the risks you are exposed to, from kicking, biting, rearing/bucking to falls and head butting. But despite this, accidents do happen and when they do you need to know that your recovery is not going to be troubled by worries of paying the bills. Equine insurance is designed to give you peace of mind, knowing that you will be able to pay your bills, while you recover. The amount of compensation and benefits you receive can vary from insurers and policies. For example, some insurers compensate you for the amount of time you are in the hospital after an accident. You will usually pay a monthly amount for your income protection insurance which is called a premium. You must continue to pay your premiums if you do not your policy will expire and you will not be covered.

Equine insurance covers most horse-related activities such as but not exhaustively: point to point, flat racing, eventing, showjumping, dressage, riding, trail hunting, and jockeying. Also, equine insurance covers a range of professions such as but not exhaustively: grooms, livery/riding school, dentists, vets, trainers, jockeys, and physios.

It is good to review your policies when there are any significant changes such as getting married or having a family.
